How do you get a 4yr old to take medicine?

My DD is REALLY sick and running a temp of 103. I took her to Urgent Care yesterday and they said it is a cold and to keep giving her Tylenol. I cannot get her to take the medicine. I have tried liquid tylenol, the meltaways, etc. She spits it out every time. What do I do? Her fever is getting worse.

  • put the liquid in and hold her nose shut. She has to swallow to breathe. Sounds mean, but when they have to have it...

  • Mix it into something she likes to drink or eat. Like juice, yogurt or pudding?

  • If none of the above work, take her back. They can inject it to keep it down.

  • Are you asking her if she *wants* to take her medicine? or are you telling her she is GOING to take her medicine?

If all else fails, sit on her and pour it down her throat.

  • Don't tell her she needs to eat whatever you have mixed it in. It's almost dinner time. Serve it in something with her meal. This way she won't know to reject it.

  • Is she keeping anything else down?

You can give it rectally but you will need the doc to call in a script since the meds are formulated differently.
