I usually get a marinade, poke the crap out of the roast, and dump about half of it over the roast in an airtight container, and let it set overnight. In the morning, put the roast in the crock pot, and pour the rest of the bottle and about 2 cups of hot water. Cook all day! I like to use a carribean jerk marinade.
He does say "widower" after all. Poor guy, probably needed some help and didn't know what else to do. What a better place to go than a site full of moms for some cooking advice. I hope he got some ideas.
