Another hate crime?

35-year-old Seattle man is facing assault and hate crime charges following allegations that he accosted a clerk at a Queen Anne convenience store.

According to police, Brock Stainbrook derided the man as being a terrorist during the Tuesday morning incident.

Writing the court, a Seattle detective said Stainbrook entered the 7-11 store in at 362 Denny Way. The clerk was standing near a coffee machine when Stainbrook accosted him.

"For unknown reasons a person threw change on the floor near the victim's feet then punched the victim on the left side of the head," the detective said.

"After the suspect struck (the clerk) with his fist he said, 'You're not even American, you're Al-Qaeda. Go back to your country.'"

Another employee then stepped in, forcing Stainbrook to leave the store. As he did so, police allege the man tried to kick the second employee and damaged a barcode scanner.

  • I think all crimes are pretty much hate crimes. This has nothing to do with stirring up old emotions-people can be stupid and hateful-PERIOD!

  • I think it's pretty obvious that is a hate crime. However, there are tons of hate crimes every day, in every country. Why do you only post the ones involving Muslims?

  • You know....in SEATTLE , which is thousands of miles away from Ground Zero. you can't blame the Mosque controversy for the actions of this crazy wacko guy who accused an innocent man of being a terrorist. But you CAN blame prejudice and insanity on what he did. Is that so hard to understand?

  • "i dont understand, why they couldnt just build the mosque somewhere else once they saw the trouble it was causing. "

I don't understand why people expect them to move just because there are people who seem to be incapable of acting like mature adults.... They have every right to be there, and their wanting to build does not justify these negative behaviors - nor do these negative behaviors in anyway negate their right or reflect on them. These behaviors only reflect on the immature bigots committing them, and those that encourage them to do so.

Although I don't think this has that much to do with the Mosque, and everything to do with the way that people in this country justify hating what they don't understand...
