How much does it cost for your child to eat at school?

Lunch is $2 and Breakfast $1. They don't eat school lunch because I can give them much better food for $180 per month. I have 3 kids in school. NO bashing.

  • My son's school does not have a hot lunch option. I would guess that I spend about $40 a month on lunch stuff for him.

  • Breakfast would be $1.25 I think and lunch $1.65. She qualified for the free/reduced lunch though. That would be nearly 60 bucks a month just for the one kid. Couldn't imagine doing it for 3.

  • in my area all schools provide free lunch and free breakfast everyday. Which is a good thing because if they didn't my DH would make to much and we would have to pay for lunch if she didn't get free lunches

  • My sons school(Elementary) charges $2.85 per day for lunch...they do not serve breakfast. They have pretty healthy meals there, believe it or not..well balanced and a good portion sizes too. I was pleasantly suprised when I looked into it when he first started there.

Just in case some mothers want to bash other mothers about free lunch. I personally wouldn't pay for school lunch its gross.

  • Depends. The elementary school is on a food program that provides free breakfast and lunch to all students w/ no financial requirements.

The middle school doesn't have that program. My older son says he spends about $2.50 on breakfast (bagel w/ cream cheese, juice or a piece of fruit, and chocolate milk). Lunch is around $3 for the meal or varies if you go a la carte.

Both of them actually prefer school lunches *unless* I happen to surprise them by bringing them lunch. (As a treat, I will occasionally bring my older son sushi.)
