I wonder why my MIL won't leave the dryer running if she's not at home

I'm sure I could just ask her but its more fun to ask you all why you think that might be...
I don't think its because of the clothes getting wrinkled because she irons everything anyway... any theories?

  • My neighbor left her dryer on and left..........came home to her house burned down due to lint in the dryer. Ive never left my house with my dryer on after that. Perhaps thats why your MIL wont leave her dryer on?

  • There's a risk of lint accumulating in the dryer components which could cause a fire.

  • Most people don't leave anything like that running for fear it will short out and cause a fire. I know someone who even turns off her furnace when she's gone. The only thing she leaves running is the fridge.
I won't leave the dryer or washer running just like I won't leave the coffee pot on or the oven on. I'm afraid that it'll cause a fire and no one will be there to put it out.

  • Because she is afraid that the house will catch fire. Same theory as leaving an electric blanket on when you aren't home.

I don't leave the dryer running if I leave either. The lint can catch fire if the dryer over heats.

  • I don't leave my dryer running when I leave the house either. We had a friend on our families who home burned down because her dryer (less than a year old) had an electrical problem and caught on fire. She lost her home and her dog who was inside at the time.

  • I don't leave my dryer on either if I'm leaving the house ... too many stories of how folks came back to find their houses burned to the ground.

  • Dryers can buld up lint or greasy residue from dryer sheets and unexpectedly catch fire. I was warned by the local fire dept to never run my dryer when I wasn't home.

  • if she doesnt leave ANYTHING running and she's parinoid about leaving home if something is plugged in, ect. could be a worry of starting a fire since dryer sheets are known to leave waxy substance on your filter and start fires or if its too overly filled up with lint.

or maybe its like people who cant leave the house without the dishes being done, just a peace of mind thing.
