Does Obama have a clue?

Recently, Barack Obama used Ford as the stage to deliver his speech to declare that the government intervention at GM and Chrysler produced a rescue of the domestic auto industry and pointed to restored sales as proof.

HOWEVER, [Bloomberg]U.S. auto sales in August probably were the slowest for the month in 28 years as model-year closeout deals failed to entice consumers concerned the economy is worsening and they may lose their jobs.

Industrywide deliveries, to be released tomorrow, may have reached an annualized rate of 11.6 million vehicles this month, the average of eight analysts’ estimates compiled by Bloomberg. That would be the slowest August since 1982, according to researcher Ward’s AutoInfoBank.

  • Consumers are avoiding showrooms as fear of a double-dip recession grows following the 27 percent plunge in existing home sales in July, said Mike Wall, an analyst for IHS Automotive. The U.S. unemployment rate in July held at 9.5 percent, near a 26-year high of 10.1 percent. The Conference Board reported today that consumer sentiment rose to 53.5 this month from a five-month low of 51 in July. Fewer Americans said jobs were plentiful in August.

  • As a former diehard GM gal, this is hard to watch US automakers. But why the need of Obama, Biden, and others to sugar coat it? Shouldn't we deal in the REALITY of our nation's manufacturing decline. STOP playing POLITICS with jobs and the wallets of American's.

Who is responsible for updating the Obama puppet also known as the Teleprompter of the United States? Or maybe they should fire his speech writer? Along with his economic team...

  • Maybe we need to read some Republicans' solutions to the whole economy issue.....bring it on!

  • So, this is a Democrat vs Republican thing? Are you that simple minded that your only argument to Obama's poor speech and seizing the opportunity to politicize our nations economic challenges~ is to make it Democrat vs Republican? This is the CHANGE you believe in?  This is your HOPE for our nation's future?  That is pathetic... Why can't you admit Obama was WRONG in his speech at Ford?

  • He's clearly not wanting to tell the truth about what he knows is really happening because it will make him look bad and his approval rating will sink even lower.
