underweight 8 year old

my 8 year old is super picky. he will only eat ground beef, refried beans, pasta without sauce, a few veggies, fruit without skin, breads/crakers, cheese and a couple other things. on the list of stuff he will eat, he will only eat it if he has been served the same meal more than 5 times. and even then 1/4 of the time he will not eat it.

at his last doctor check up, she said he needed to gain more weight. he is the size of a 6 year old. she suggested i give him breakfast drinks to help him gain weight, but i don't know if i should. i am afraid that if i do the next older two will want some and not eat their food also (they are all 3 picky, the oldest is way more) they love to copy him and will refuse food after he say he doesn't like it. even if they were enjoying it before. i can't afford to by the extra stuff for all three kids. any sugetions?

  • Offer only healthy good fat foods and tell them it's eat or move on until next time. They will not starve and they will eat. Don't only offer what they will eat, offer lots of other things and one thing of what you know they will eat and have them eat 2 bites of the other stuff.

  • First of all, tell your oldest to stop saying that he does not like certain foods in front of your other kids. Second, buy him the drinks and tell the others that they cannot have it beause the dr. said these are for him, and that maybe when they are older, the dr. will want them to have the drinks, too. Good luck, I have an autistic son that is picky, and I worry about what he eats/ does not eat all the time.
