What is the first fruit/veggie you introduced to your baby?

We have started to give our son 'solids' in the evenings so that he can get used to the texture of food. I have heard not to start with fruit because they can aquire a taste for only sweet things. Well, we gave him some sweet potatoes and he devoured them! Just curious to see what you all started out with and what your experience was like. (PLEASE DON'T USE THIS AS A PLACE TO LECTURE OTHERS ON WHY STARTING SOLIDS EARLY IS NOT RIGHT).

  • With all 3 of mine I started with carrots then peas then sweet potatoes.......after they got used to them I would give them some veggies for lunch with some applesauce after, they made the funniest faces when they would get the sweetness form the applesauce.

  • pears....she never had a problem with other foods just because we started with fruits...the problem we faced (but easily remedied) was when I didn't make it warm enough.....holy cow!the faces she would make.

  • Mine all started with bananas simply because I always have those available in the house. I really thing nothing of giving them fruit first. Breastmilk is sweet - so if they are going to acquire a taste for sweeter stuff, they already have. :D I also don't do one food at a time. I mash our table food and that is what they eat - spices and all! But bananas are always the first thing I try - it's just easy.

  • how early is early? mines been eating solids since before six months. it was green veggies i started with. my oldest loved orka! oh, i made my own baby food, but stay clear of corn until six months, it gives them an upset tummy and the gas bubbles! hold your nose! lol. but i didn't have a problem with the fruit thing like most. now my kids will eat fruits and veggies over any other snack.
just in case your not sure, boil the stuff and toss it into the blender with a little extra water. thats how i made my food.
