  • I have to say that I havent heard anyone say that in a long time. I wouldnt be offended, I would just think that was so outdated to say.

  • I have two friends, one her brother is severe downs syndrome and autisic. She grew up taking care of him. She cringes when she hears the term used so loosely. My other friend has a downs child and she also doesn't care for the term. There is no need for it at all. You can justify away, but it's still meant in a derogatory way referring to a disabled person. Even talking like a special needs person to make fun of something bugs me. It's no better than any other derrogatory term used to insult a person, race, creed, religion etc.

  • It doesn't offend me, though wouldn't use those expressions myself

  • Not really, but I don't have a reason for it to offend me.

  • It doesn't really "offend" me, but truthfully I can't help but think that the person saying it is extremely immature. To me, that is the way an adolescent talks not an intelligent, well-read adult.

  • I don't take a major offense with those terms, but I do not like them used when the person they are referring to is mentally impaired. I think it is crude and cruel.
