  • The dinner is tradition. The rehearsal is to go over exactly how everything will go tomorrow - where to stand, what order to walk in, etc.

  • It's a way of saying thank you to all of the people for being in your wedding and showing up for the rehearsal dinner. It's optional.

  • socializing mainly, and to show some of the more oblivious ppl what to do. Oh, and a lot of ppl use it as an opportunity to give the groomsmen/bridesmaids their gifts.

  • You mean the point of the DINNER rather than the rehearsal itself, which is intended to make the wedding itself go smoother?

The dinner is a chance to socialize that's all.

  • We didn't have a rehearsal or a rehearsal dinner. It's just not in our tradition. There is a quick rundown of how things are going to proceed shortly before the ceremony. We threw ourselves a last hurrah barbeque the night before the wedding. It was a blast.

  • we had a rehersal dinner because most of our family was from out of state so it was another chance to see and socialize with everyone.

  • For us it was the only chance to get everyone at the venue to practice before the wedding since his half of the family was flying in from the East coast. We did a quick run through then we just went to a sea food place to eat. I guess the point of the dinner is to get together as one big new family before the event.
