Does this sound like an okay schedule for a 3 and 1 year old?

I'm in school so I have to give myself time to do school work 3-5 hours a day. Much of that is done after they go to bed but I do need time during the day as well. I'm trying to get my children on a better routine/schedule. I'm not one of those people who will freak out if we're still eating past "breastfast time" but I would like them to get on a better schedule so we can accomplish more during the day and so I can be better organized with school. What do you think?

8:00 Wake Up
8:30 Breakfast
9:00 Get Dressed
9:15 Playroom time/ Mommy School Work Time
9:45 Go for a walk
10:15 Morning Outside Play
10:45 Snack Time
10:55 Cool down and read quietly
12:00 Lunch Time
12:30 Nap Time
2:30 Play Room/Mommy School work
3:30 Clean Up
4:00 Afternoon Outside time
5:00 Make dinner
6:00 Eat Dinner
7:00 Bath and PJs
7:45 Bed Time Story
8:00 Bed Time

  • It seems you have the schedule worked out, but I will tell you it is hard to make dinner at 5 and it be ready to eat at 6, I think you may want to add in "open space" time, because if not you will feel like you are running around all day and become very exhausted.

  • If you can keep the schedule, cool-but as a parent, we all know it isn't always that easy.

  • This is OP...I didn't mean to hit the anon button...

I make dinner every night starting at 5 and it is on the table at 6 without fail. I know that a lot of people do not do this or can't work it into their schedule but that is a normal for us and is something I would definately want to keep the same.

  • And as I said before I'm not concerned with things going "over" or anything so I don't think it's THAT ridgid. I think ridgid would be if there was no room for change.

If I have to run out to do an errand then I will but I would like to get back on track when we get back home.

    Thanks for the answer!! :)

  • That is way more strict than we run our schedule. That would totally stress my kids out... and me too for that matter. First... I don;t wake them up. If they need to sleep, I let them sleep.
    8-9 Wake up
    8:30 or 9:30 - breakfast
9 or 10 to noon - free play for kids, while I clean, pay bills
noon - lunch full our to enjoy our meal
    1-2:30 structured activity
    2:30-4:00 nap
    4:00-dinner time free play
5-6 dinner hour - relax, enjoy, clean up
6-7 (or later if we are having fun) family play time
    7-8:30 baths, stories, teeth
    9pm bedtime
