Do Lymph nodes do that?

I've had a bump that has appeared below my pantyline and went to see my ob/gyn. She thought it was a hernia and sent me in for a abdominal ultrasound and called me today to say that it looks like a swollen lymph node and that there shouldn't be any there. She's sending me on to a general surgeon. I wonder if I need a second opinion as the bump comes and goes... Do lymph nodes do that?

  • The human body has over 500 lymph nodes. It is possible that you have them in the area you are talking about. It could not hurt to see what the general surgeon says, but you could also seek a second opinion if you are not comfortable with what your doctor said.

  • Yes, you do have lymph nodes located there and it is possible for them to get swollen. I've had it happen before.

  • All of the above. There ARE lymph nodes there, and swelling CAN come and go - I have had the same problem, and my doctor said, for me, it's an indicator of my body fighting off an infection. I'm at the point though where if I notice it swelling I have to go in for antibiotics instead of waiting to see if anything else comes up.
