  • The people that aren't bigoted will say "Oh, that's nice" and the usual bigots will make it into some scary nefarious terrorist plot.

  • Shame on you LoriKeet for bringing up those pesky facts? It cracks me up when people bring up Muslims killed on911. Collareral damage and murdering their own is part and parcel of this peaceful faith.

  • Not panicking, but I remember yesterday somebody saying that 240 black robe Preachers, Imams, Priests and Rabbis standing behind Glenn Beck were a Black Robe Cult.  Does this not  make her a bigot?

  • Your "divisive speech" of anti-muslim and muslim supporters. It is bandwagoning, it divides, and it polarizes. I thought the left didn't like talk like that. It is this type of speech which puts Americans into categories that causes more problems than the issues of "to build or not to build". You are making Americans defend themselves against other Americans. Can't you just pose the question as "Do you think this will change opinions to be more in favor of building the Mosque?" Why bait and stir things up? I am against the Mosque being built on that site. I am not anti-anything. I can be supportive of Muslims as a religion and think this Mosque at this place is a bad idea. Stop hyphenating me and everyone else.

  • I hope it does. Muslim is not synonymous with al-queda, and ive been saying for years that muslims and islamic faith in its entirety is not the enemy. Muslims were killed in the towers, too, and have just as much of a right as any to mourn the tragedy. That is the exact reason soldiers are fighting overseas.. to protect our freedom to do such a thing regardless of whether or not we are muslim, black, white, female, etc.

  • Wait...since OBAMA already signed this into LAW on April 21, 2009....does that mean that he aligns himself with this Muslim effort, and that he is, in fact, Muslim American?! Or are Muslim Americans trying to take credit for something OBAMA has already done?!  So many questions!!!  LOL :oP

"By a joint resolution approved December 18, 2001 (Public Law 107-89), the Congress has designated September 11 of each year as Patriot Day, and by Public Law 111-13, approved April 21, 2009, has requested the observance of September 11 as an annually recognized National Day of Service and Remembrance."

  • contd)
the "4th of July" USED to be "Independence Day", and along with fireworks and outdoor BBQs, we read the Declaration of Independence and told the stories of injustice which led to the American Revolution, and the amazing stories OF the Revolution
Veterans' Day, Memorial Day, Martin Luther King Day, Flag Day,
Constitution Day - coming up soon on September 17th - WAS a day to READ the Constitution and tell stories about the long debates which shaped it, and to trace the various really significant amendments which have happened over the years.

Sept. 11, Patriot Day, is a very good moment to focus on the personal liberty at the basis of America - some prefer to call that "human rights", and I think that is another appropriate word for liberty.

In the Declaration and the Constitution, we find a list of what Americans believe and do.
Do our kids KNOW this list?
Let's focus on that, and use any other day for community servic

  • Won't change a thing. Those who hate them for no reason than their religion will invent excuses to either explain away why this is meaningless or try and make it part of some Islamic conspiracy ulterior motive or just sum it up as too little too late. Those who understand basic human decency didn't need this kind of display to begin with.
