Making a few scarecrows for outside decoration...what else can we stuff them with other than leaves or newspaper..something that will hold up well to outdoor weather?

This weather has me in the autumn spirit..I love it! LOL
Thought I'd do something fun with the kids today and scarecrows it is!! :)
But...there are no leaves on the ground yet..well..a few but not enough.
Newspaper was a thought but I figure it won't hold well outdoors.
What else could we use......
Thanks in advance crafters! :)

  • We make a scarecrow every year and we always use straw to stuff them. It works great and weather does not affect it.

  • Plastic grocery bags, if you have a surplus. If you don't you can go buy some painters plastic, it is really cheap and bunches up, so one package will fill the scarecrows. It is like $2 for a bag. You find it in the painting section of the store.

  • The plastic bag idea is great! We always made ours out of straw from the barn....

  • Trash bags or grocery bags should hold up to the weather, especially if you aren't trying to use them for more than one season.

  • Yes, plastic grocery bags is what I was thinking too ... which means I'd be in trouble without anything to stuff my scarecrow with, because I don't have any!
