becoming a doula

I seriously think I just figured out what I want to be. Does anyone know how I would start to become a doula?

  • Check out the various options.
ALACE (which is something else now)

Some are 3 - 4 day workshops. Some are online/distance learning.
I choose to go with CBI (Childbirth International) because there was no DONA classes in my state for over a year and I did not want to wait. I also preferred the more intensive training of CBI.

  • I am going to do it too. I am getting certified through a Doula agency. What's cool is they way I will do it, I will be certified nation wide. It takes about a year, and you are out in the field hands on during training. I found a wonderful agency that certifies in MN>

  • Oh yeah, and when you are certified, insurance pays for a doula, most of the time. For me it is approx $400 a delivery.

  • I went overseas and trained and I have yet to birth my own baby so I am waiting for the birth of my first child to really get into it. I have attended 3 births and they were all amazing!
