How do I encourage walking rather than crawling?

My son is almost 10 months old and is standing by himself well and he cruises all over! I know its kinda early, but he wont walk! he will stand by himself for a minute but then he just wants to crawl rather than walk! he has taken a step a few times by himself but them gets annoyed and just falls into a crawling position and hauls a$$ around the house. How do I encourage him to walk rather than crawl?

  • sounds like a push toy would be a great thing for him

  • He will walk when he is ready. My kids were all different--one walked at one year, one at 13 months, one at 16 months....she was very cautious. :-) But then she grew up to be a dancer in junior high school--took tap and ballet.
    Don't worry about it!

  • Wait until hes ready and dont push him. That can cause problems. Ten months is early as you stated. Just give him time. Give him a push toy to push around.

  • Why encourage it at all? He'll walk when HE is ready to walk. If he choose to crawl first, let him. :)

  • There are plenty of links between strong crawling and reading skills. Crawling develops things in the brain that will help with language and reading later in life. Don't knock the crawling!
