Flood Insurance question.

I have a question about flood insurance.
We are planning on bidding on a house on Tuesday. It has been totally re-modeled and has the perfect sized yard. It’s at the end of a dead-end road and is SOOOO cute! The only thing that worries us about the house is that it requires flood insurance. I am not worried about it b/c the creek that runs through it hardly ever has any water in it and we haven’t had a flood in 6+ years. Plus all the houses that are in this county that we have looked at are near rivers/creeks.

Anyways, How many of you have flood insurance? How many of you have ever had to use it and how much did they cover?

  • Fllod insurance- HA! I live outside of New Orleans and yes we went through Katrina. Evacuated for 4 1/2 months. We have insurance for water that comes down, up and sideways... you name it. Thankfully by having this we were able to fix our home and go on. Good luck with the house and keep up the insurance for those just incase times.

  • We don't live in a flood plain, but we have flood insurance anyway. We feel it's better to be safe than sorry where floods are concerned. We haven't had to use it, though.

  • have it insured for what the house is worth plus the cost of replacing your stuff... try to make a detailed list with pics of your big ticket items and have them scheduled out... trust me it is worth the hassle... if you dont have descriptions and pics your ins co can deny payment for it if something was to happen...
