Bedtime for school-age kids?

Hubby and I argue all the time because we cannot agree on a suitable bedtime for our oldest daughter. She is 6 1/2 and in first grade. What time do you put your school-age kids to bed?

  • 8:30pm and we're all up by 7-7:15am, they seem to be adjusting to the 8:30 bedtime pretty good, used to be 9pm during the summer :P

  • I would say no later than 9. Mine range from 7-9pm. The bus picks them up between 6:20am (the first kid) and 7:15am (the fourth kid.)

  • Mine are in bed by 9 pm, but that's mainly because we homeschool and I don't need them up to early. If they were going to school I would have them in bed by 8 pm so they can get up by 6:00-6:30 am for school. I've read that 6-9 year old need about 10 hours of sleep. So I would start with the time you need her up and work backwards from there. If you need her up at 6 am then bedtime @ 8 pm would give her 10 hours.
