Half or Whole..

Ladies answer this question for me. When your mom have kids, those kids are whole sister & brothers..? But when the kids your mom have the kids have different dads, does that mean they are half sisters & brothers.?

  • If a couple has two kids together, those kids are whole brother and sister. If the mom has a kid with a different dad then that kid would have one half brother and one half sister.

  • Half -brother or Half-sister means that they only share one parent genetically - it doesn't matter if it is the mother or the father. If a mother has a two children from different fathers the siblings are half-siblings.

  • You can only get "whole" brother and sisters from kids your mom and your dad had together...if your parents are divorced and have kids with other people, they are your half siblings because you only share one parent. Step would be like if your mother got re-married to someone with kids that weren't hers...your step-dad or step-mom's kids are step brother and sisters.

    That said, we don't use the words "step" or "half" in our family. There are many divorces, but I think it kind of breaks down a sense of family to call someone only "half" or "step".

  • 'Whole" siblings have the same biological mother AND father. Half siblings share a mother or a father, not both.
