Where did you meet your friends??

My husband and I seem to have very few friends.. by choice because we can't seem to find people that are not completely selfish .. We don't even have any one to be a godparent for him.. ( the members of our family are out of the question) we are hoping to meet other couples/parents when he joins activities who also like to be with their kids and do family activities but it just seems we can't find people like that.. they either want their kids away from them or they are just selfish people in general..Where did you have your friends from?? is it all from high school or grade school or is there a chance we can meet some nice people at activities??

  • We don't have a lot of friends either. I have a good friend from high school, but we live 8+ hours apart. I've also made friends through work, but most of them are empty-nesters and they spend their free time much differently than we do. I have one friend that I used to work with who has young kids, but I only meet up with her - our husbands are basically strangers to one another, so we don't do couples/family things together. My husband's best friends he met when he was in the Navy, and they all live a long way from us. We also had our last kids later in life, so the people we know with young kids are usually younger than us by a decade or more which seems to make close relationships a little awkward. Since we've moved we've invited some of our neighbors with kids to do things with us, but we've yet to make a real connection. We both talk about finding another couple to hang out with, but so far it hasn't happened.

  • I have one from H.S. and I met one through the wife of one of hubbies friends. We have also met a few ok couples that are co-workers of my husband. We get together once in awhile but we aren't too close. We find it hard to be friends with people that don't view things such as safety, drug use, etc the same way we do. We are a little more cautious and conservative than a lot of the parents we have met.

  • High school, college, work, graduate school, the PTA, and in my neighborhood. Try volunteering or joining an organization for something that interests you; you will be more likely to find someone with a shared interest there.

  • We have a group of 7 couples that we have hung out with since our mid 20s (we are mid 40s) we met them all through hubby's work. We have neighbors we have become good friends with, and the last set of people we hang with are ladies I have met through volunteer work at the elementary school.
