Do they have actual tests in first grade?

Someone was telling me their daughter got a 100 percent on her first test at school and she is in first grade. Several people commented to her that they didn't have tests in first grade and I can't remember if they do or not. Does anyone know?

  • I taught first grade and gave a weekly reading test and a weekly spelling test. I also gave a math test after every chapter completed.

  • My kids did. They had spelling tests every Friday and they were graded.

  • Yes, of course they have "real tests" in the first grade... Why wouldn't they?

  • It depends on the teacher. My kids both had spelling tests in first grade - my son had them in Kinder since he was an early reader and his teacher made certain he was challenged.
