do you believe that "hell"is an actual place of torment when we die?

I've done some research and the term "hell" was a place that existed in biblical times for punishment and does not refer to actual forever torment after death. think about john 3:16. Would not PERISH but have everlasting life. If you are alive in hell how can u perish? im thinking that once you die if you've not accepted Jesus that you just go back to ashes and if you have then you go to heaven.look up "is hell real" on google and u be surprised on the answers u get.

  • Jesus hardly spoke about "hell". if its so real why didn't he speak about it? Pastors need to study the original meaning of words before preaching them. the term "hell" does not exist in the original form of the bible. the belief started with pagans, not christians. in the old testament people were punished while alive for there sins. it doesn't talk about them going to a place of torment forever. hell is for satan not people.

  • Yes... I do believe in a literal (sp?) hell just like I believe in a literal heaven. The bible speaks about it and it's a place of torment and everlating darkness. I also know there will be people who will say a loving God would never send anyone there. However, a loving God gave us His Son. His Son died an awful death on a cross so that we wouldn't have to spend eternity in hell. But the choice is ours, to have a relationship with God through His Son Jesus or to reject and deny him. But yeah.....hell is real.

  • The word “hellfire” is an English distortion of “Gehenna,” the name of the ancient refuse dump outside the city of Jerusalem, which term was used by Jesus as a symbol of everlasting destruction. (Matthew 10:28) What, then, of hell itself (rendered from the Hebrew “she’ohl′” and the Greek “hai′des”)? If it is a place of torment, would anybody want to go there? Hardly. Yet, the patriarch Job asked God to conceal him there. (Job 14:13) The hell of the Bible is the common grave of mankind, where those who have died rest in God’s loving memory, awaiting a resurrection.—John 5:28, 29.

  • When you look at old dictionarys it says hell is mankinds grave. Plus the bible says that God is love 1 john 4:8. Would a God of love put his children in a place such as hell forever after he gave us freewill? Like you say wehen we die we are back to dust. Ecclesistes 3:19-20. We do pay for our sins when we die, That was the punishment that was given to our first parents,Which has been past onto us. Romans 6:23; Romans 5:12.
