Is having bloody/runny nose with a cold normal?

My 3 year old son has had a cold for quite a while now now, mostly just a runny nose but sometimes he gets like bloody snot running out. Is that normal or should I take him to the doctor?

  • Sounds more like a sinus infection. Use a saline nasal spray to keep his passages moist & help with drainage. No dairy products. Dairy creates mucus.

  • My son had that problem. The Pediatrician suggested we use a saline nasal spray. It seemed to work. Good Luck to you!

  • Sounds like a sinus infection. I've seen it in a lot of children when they get colds.

  • It's normal. If it's not hurting him, then it's probably just a little broken blood vessel because of all the blowing. I was just up mine last night for the same thing!~

  • My son gets them all the time with colds. I think it is from blowing too much. Try giving something that will help dry up sinuses. That may help.

  • Sinus infection! Take him to the Dr. Sometimes I have a lil blood, but thats because my nose gets dry after awhile.
