random question about preemies...

a former coworker posted something about her baby turning one this month. But he born three months early. I've never been around a preemie befor so I don't know much about them... But would a year old baby who was born three months be developmentally like a year old baby, or a nine month old?

  • Depends, some catch up and surpass other babies born at 9 months.

  • A nine month old typically. Preemies develop by the due date.

  • this could be either. I have twins who were a little over 2months early... i have one who is devloping at a 6month level which they are and one that is at about a 4month level. It honestly depends on the baby.

  • My son was born 3 and a half months early, he spent 5 months in the NICU when we finally got to bring him home he did the things that a newvborn baby that you just bring home from the hospital would do. He will now be 10 months old on the 11th and does what 5 month olds do. He will be caught up at about 2 years of age, and the whole NICU let us know that this is how things would be. Some babies develope faster or some slower.

  • Developmently, you go by the age they SHOULD be. Some babies catch up sooner then others though.
