My grandson just started walking. When can he wear tennis shoes?

I'd like to buy my grandson some tennis shoes. I can't remember when is the best time to start wearing them and whats the best brand?

  • Most doctors recommend going barefoot until they are at least 2 years old. My children were barefoot whenever possible (still are at the age of 5 and 3 years). Yes sometimes you need to cover their feet, but soft soled shoes are your best bet if at all possible. Around here in the winter that is not possible, but you do what you can.

  • I got my daughter shoes as soon as she started walking. New shoes really encouraged her to walk more. I didn't really go by any brand because they grow out of them so quick. I looked for ones that looked comfortable.

  • My son started wearing sneakers since the day he started walking. He only wears them when we go outside or out somewhere otherwise he's barefoot.
