  • The one thing you need for any adoption is a homestudy, which includes a home visit and interview from a social worker and a background check. After that, there are 3 basic types of adoption-adoption through foster care, domestic infant adoption, and international adoption.

I'd be happy to answer any specific questions you might have, as an adoptive parent I feel like a veteran of the confusing details of the hoops you have to jump through to add a child to your family through adoption.

  • Every adoption needs an approved homestudy by a licensed social worker and a criminal background check. After that, each place, agency has different requirements.

Look at a site called for different requirements.

  • It depends on the process.... Each state/county has different requirements in regards to foster care adoption and domestic infant adoption as well as laws about TPR.
International has state, federal and that individual country's laws that have to be followed...
We went International and had a 13 page dossier, a 13 page homestudy, medical items, financials, references, background checks at the county, state, and federal levels, as well as a myriad of other items...we stayed in China for 3 weeks to complete the adoption as well.

  • Physicals, a home study, created a portfolio, put finances in order to pay for adoption, paperwork, and wait to be matched. Several months later we brought home my son.
