How do you deal with domestic radicals?

WASHINGTON – The U.S. was slow to take seriously the threat posed by homegrown radicals and the government has failed to put systems in place to deal with the growing phenomenon, according to a new report compiled by the former heads of the Sept. 11 Commission.

The report says U.S. authorities failed to realize that Somali-American youths traveling from Minnesota to Mogadishu in 2008 to join extremists was not an isolated issue. Instead, the movement was one among several instances of a broader, more diverse threat that has surfaced across the country.

Yes,and I am wondering how she managed to think it was relevant to mention the PC issue in this discussion of "home grown terrorists"? LOL. What a stretch.

  • This is the type of thing where I wonder if how much information they put out is a good thing. Seriously, we've got a problem, we don't know what to do with it, so let's advertise it to the world.

And how can they NOT know this kind of thing is a problem? There's this new fangled thing called the internet, and the amount of America hating posters on it blows my mind. Maybe they need to hire some high school kids to do their jobs.

  • Monitor them closely and stop them when they start a chain not after it is said and done.

"Our long-held belief that homegrown terrorism couldn't happen here has thus created a situation where we are today stumbling blindly through the legal, operational and organizational minefield of countering terrorist radicalization and recruitment occurring in the United States," said the report, which was obtained by The Associated Press.

  • You ignore them until they do something illegal. Something our media will never get.
If they do something illegal then you prosecute them . It's that simple.

  • It is better politically if you focus on the PERCEIVED dangerous conservatives rather than the peaceful Muslims.

How about if they dump the PC junk and just PAY ATTENTION to what is going on around them. They need to pay attention to what the people are saying. Heck they busted a group not 20 miles from me...they were building a terror training camp in the middle of the Oregon wilderness. How do you think they got busted? The locals...the people building the camp didn't exactly fit in and the locals questioned what was going on with their new neighbors.

  • Oh sorry sweet, your OQ discussed the Somali youth.......they were Muslim were they not?? Did you post the wrong article, because the one posted refers to radical Islam here in the US.

    Exerpt from article..
But the U.S., the group said, should have learned earlier from Britain's experience. Prior to the 2005 London suicide bombings, the British believed they were less vulnerable to an attack because Muslims there were better integrated, educated and wealthier than their counterparts elsewhere.

Similarly, the U.S. believed that its melting pot of nationalities and religions would protect it from internal radical strife, the report said.

Sooooooo, I go back to my first answer.
