What can I do to help my nail biter?

My oldest girl bites her nails. she bites them until they're bloody, and it doesn't bother her. Here's what I have tried - we got the gross tasting nail biter stuff. She just gnaws it off. We painted her nails pretty purple - she gnawed that off. We give her something to chew on in the car, a baby toy shaped like a hand. Now, that does help some. I am looking for some more things to try. I was a nail biter until college, and will power is what made me finally stop. I don't expect that of a 3 year old, though. She doesn't do it when she nervous or upset, mostly when she's just sitting there.

  • She is probably doing it because she is bored or because she doesn't realize she's doing it. I was a nail biter too. I quit because my cousin would smack my hand whenever she caught me doing it and I just got tired of that...hahaha. But I wouldn't suggest Try finding something that keeps her hands busy, you can try to teach her how to make friendship bracelets or even just roll up yarn or a rubberband ball. Just something to keep her preoccupied with her hands so she can't bite on them. Good Luck. ☺

  • maybe try something to keep her hands occupied, like a koosh ball or something along those lines.

  • sounds like boredom... give her something else... my 3 year old LOVES suckers... and i know they aren't the best option health or tooth wise... but better than the fingers all the time... i also agree with something that would keep her hands busy as another attempt... if it's a coloring book, or toy or something like that...
