At what age did your dd/ds start:

Walking
Talking
Feeding themselves
Picking up toys (to hold/rattles, etc)?
Communicating their needs (other than whining/grunting)?
Crawling (Army/etc)?
Holding their head up without support of a couch/pillow?
Holding themselves up w/out support of anything?

I know all babies develop at different paces, but the reason for these questions is simple, my 1yr old step son is not doing any of these things!
I've tried talking to his Bio-Mom, but she is like talking to a tree stump, she sees nothing wrong with him, and says " He'll get to it when he's ready." I can not for the life of me understand why this woman isn't willing to get her son the help he needs (I'm not the only one that's said something even her PED said something to her about it).

  • Walking
Talking- My son was 3 months old. My daughter was 6 months old.
Feeding themselves- My son was 6 months old. My daughter was 7 months old
Picking up toys (to hold/rattles, etc)? Both were six months old
Communicating their needs (other than whining/grunting)? My son was 6 months old, but had issues with it. He still has issues telling me what he wants, needs, or is having a problem with though. My daughter was 9 months old.
Crawling (Army/etc)? My son was 6 months old and my daughter was 6 1/2 months old
Holding their head up without support of a couch/pillow? I don't remember that one.
Holding themselves up w/out support of anything?

  • My daughter will be 13 months old next week and she isn't walking or talking. She walks along furniture or with help from us, but hasn't taken one step on her own. She babbles and says stuff, but doesn't say any words or if she is saying a certain word, I haven't figured it out yet. She was feeding herself at around 9 months. She started crawling around 7 or 8 months. Holding her head up at 3 months. Sitting without support around 6 or 7 months.

  • I agree with you. He's very behind. I would have to get my son's baby book to know exactly when he started all of these, but he's almost a year now and does all of them other than walking, and has for a while.

  • Walking - both were 12 months
Talking - 1st talked real early and the 2nd gets speech therapy b/c he needs help with it
Feeding themselves - 1st started that early and the 2nd had issues with that but we got feeding therapy for him when he was 14 months old
Picking up toys (to hold/rattles, etc) - both about 5 months
Communicating their needs (other than whining/grunting) - my 1st never had problems with that but once again, my 2nd needed help with that
    Crawling (Army/etc)? - both at 6 months
Holding their head up without support of a couch/pillow - both about 2 months
Holding themselves up w/out support of anything - both about 5 months (if I remember correctly)

As you can tell though, my second child didn't hit his milestones and we were all over it...as soon as our pedi said we needed to look into getting therapists in our house we did and he is doing so much better because of it. The earlier the intervention the better!

  • Walking - Not by herself just yet, she's 9.5 months & has been cruising along furniture for about 2.5 months. She just started standing on her own, so I suspect walking will start soon..
Talking - She started saying when she waves a few weeks ago
    Feeding themselves - 7 months
Picking up toys (to hold/rattles, etc)? - 3 months
Communicating their needs (other than whining/grunting)? - Not yet, can't wait for that..the whining is starting to get to me, haha.
    Crawling (Army/etc)? 5-6 months
Holding their head up without support of a couch/pillow? 4 months
Holding themselves up w/out support of anything? 5 months

I don't think that is cause for a CPS call. Why doesn't your husband voice these concerns to his son's pediatrician?
