  • Yes. She can write her first, middle and last name in proper upper and lower cases. She learned in preschool last year when she was 3 (well, I taught her the middle name).

  • My boys could. My daughter is still working on it at 5, it is just now getting legible.

  • My DD is 3 (4 in November) She has been writing her nickname (Gigi) for many months and now can write her full first name too.

  • My mom says that I could...but she just moved from teaching 1st to 2nd grade and has had many children in her classes that have had difficulty writing (i.e. legibility, backwards letters and numbers, spelling errors even on "easy" words). So, I think if you're worried about he/she being behind, I'm sure you've heard from several people, each child learns at their own pace, he/she'll get it!!!

  • I have taught preschool for 20 years and MOST 4 yr old cannot write their names, especially forming the letters correctly. Your child will learn when she is ready, don't push because it will make learning not fun. Before she can write her name, she needs to be able to draw different types of lines, simple shapes.

  • I teach 4 year olds and more than half of my class came in this year knowing how to write their names, but many times without proper letter formation. IMO it's harder to reteach the kids who do it incorrectly than it is to teach the ones who don't do it at all.
