Do you read labels? (Food)

When grocery shopping/eating do you read Food Labels before buying?
If so...
What are you looking for (less than X sugar, X fat, certain ingredients?)
What makes you put it back on the shelf..
Or for sure you know its OK to buy for you/your family.

  • Yes, I read everything because there are certain ingredients my kids need to avoid and others that everybody should avoid or limit so I'm looking for anything artificial (colorings, preservatives, flavorings), casein (milk protein), hydrogenated anything, GMOs, soy, canola oil, sodium, sugar, high fructose corn syrup, and on and on. As a result, I don't buy much pre-packaged/processed food, choosing rather to cook from scratch and I buy organic as much as possible.

  • I read labels rarely. But that's largely because I buy almost nothing processed. Mostly I buy basic pantry staples.
    But when I do buy processed goods, I'm looking for goods that do not have high fructose corn syrup, that do not have hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated fats, that do not have ingredients made from foods that are almost always genetically modified these days. I also try to avoid having soy, dairy, or sugar in places where sugar, soy, and dairy don't have any business being.

    Most of the time, it's easier to just buy base ingredients and make my own, lol.

  • i avoid high fructose corn syrup, modified anything, hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated anything, things i can't pronounce or don't know the source of, artificial colors, artificial flavors...
    i do not worry so much about fat, protein calories or sodium.
    we eat mostly natural foods.

  • My kids can't have food coloring so I read the labels of EVERYTHING. It's a pain sometimes but worth it :)

  • I try not to buy packaged food if I can get fruit and other things instead. If I have to I make sure its the least amount of crap I can get.

  • My daughter is allergic to nuts and has a sensitivity to certain red dyes so I have to read everything! I buy a lot of the same things over and over just because I know they are safe for her.

  • I look for things I cannot pronounce mostly. High fructose corn syrup, added color, flavor or things like that.
