Are there any safety concerns with chemicals leaching from plastic swingsets?

My parents want to buy my daughter a plastic swing-set/climber. I know there are chemical issues with many China-manufactured plastic toys and I've recently heard about the BPA risk with bounce houses that sit in the sun- but what about plastic climbers/swing sets? Thanks in advance!

  • I don't think anyone really knows the answer to this. Maybe there is going to be something leaking out. usually plastic leaching is due to high temperatures and a liquid interface that the chemicals go into. So maybe if you keep it outside, it gets hot from the sun and chemicals only leach out if there is rain soon after - and they go into your grass/dirt.

Wood is treated, too... and paint from the metal ones can peel... I think everything has it's risks.
