Another Crazy Debate with my Hubby...Your help is needed.

We were talking about grooming and the costs. I told him that he spends more than me with his frequent trims to the salon than I do. Of course, there is his manicures (he calls his one luxury) and his special shampoo so his grey does not look yellow...and so on.

Each of us wrote down a list and by the time we did a 90 day estimate on everything from special shampoos to my cosmetics...he spends more than I do by $250.

Of course, add my son in to this and his trims every two weeks and his extras, adds an additional $150.

Ladies, I am being outspent by $400. Is this hilarious or what?

I told my husband that I will not find another man anywhere who spends more than his wife. So, help me out here. Am I living in the past? Do all men spend these amounts?

  • Just be glad you have a man that wants to look good. It could be worse.

  • I have 4 males in my house and there is no way they spend more than I do.

  • My man has NEVER had a manicure or a pedicure or anykind of waxing....he is a MAN!!! He shaves 2x a week if I am lucky and gets a haircut every 8wks or so.

I am not a girly girl, I do get my eyebrows done, but that is $10 a month with tip. I don't do manicures, perms, professional coloring or anything like that. I go to Great Clips for haircuts, so in a month I spend less then $40 on " primping"

  • My Hubby shaves his head, no cost, doesn't have manicures, he would probably give your Hubby more shit than he could handle if he knew him (about the manicures, lol) . He's a manly man, and uses more Fast Orange than soap.. Although he showers every night, and always smells clean.. As for me, I cut my own hair, and don't get mani's, pedi's etc.... We make a great living but see no reason for frivolous spending. The funny thing is we didn't really think about it cutting costs until your question. I think it's crazy to pay for those things when you can do them yourselves at home...

  • My husband cuts everyone's hair in the family --me included. He does a fairly good job of it. He keeps his nails trimmed and buffed at home, and helps me with my manicures as well (my hands shake). Other than that I spend a little more than he does on other "essentials" because I'm picky about my shampoo.

  • Lets see... I get my hair cut approx every 6 mos, and it costs me $10-15. DH cuts his hair every week, it's free. DS1 has his hair cut every 3 mos, at a cost of $10/cut... DS2 and DS3 have never had hair cuts. If I want my nails to look good, I do them myself (cost = $3.50). Yeah... we're cheap like that.

I would love to spend like I used to - $200/mo on massages, getting mani/pedis every chance I got... but I have 3 kids now and SAH... so that went bye-bye.

  • I have 4 males in my life - 3 sons and my husband and they spend no where near as much as I do on my "beauty" routine.

  • Wow you guys both spend way to much. What's wrong with a simple $15 haircut? from Great Clips?

Answer by mommy_of_two388 at 11:14 AM on Sep. 13, 2010

  • I was originally thinking my DH spends more then I do because I only get my hair cut once a year and neither of us use anything special. I don't even wear makeup. But now that I think about it my one haircut is more expensive then his year of once a month haircuts.

  • Well my hubby doesn't spend any money. Well every 60 days he gets a hair cut. I don't spend any money in a three month period. We use the same shampoo and I trim my own bangs. Good luck finding some one who spends that much.
