Breastfeeding Problem

I have pretty bad cramps when I breastfeed and it seems to be getting worse. I had some with my son, but with my daughter it seems a lot worse. Is there anything I can do? Have you had this experience?

  • Normally it only lasts for weeks. It could be your cycle starting back up.
Even though I exclusively breastfeed, I still started my period at about 4 months post partum.

It if does not stop soon, call your care provider for some suggestions. Or consult with a lactation counselor, after all, they know breastfeeding where as OB's know pregnancy.

  • Mine were much worse with the second one but they faded after the first couple days? I mean, my pain was so unbearable I thought I was going to pass out every time my son nursed those first couple days. How long has this been going on? Have you called your OB?

  • BFing causes contractions. It is "normal" to have some pains that will go away in a few days or weeks, depending on your healing.

I took arnica tablets and that really helped.

  • Days or weeks? lol My daughter's four months old now.... I wonder if it has to do with the cesarean. It's my third c-section so it might be cramps from the incision? Or maybe it's my body getting ready to start mensruating again. I haven't had a period since I had her. Anyway, it sucks. It happens virtually every time I breastfeed-sometimes worse than others.
