Have you used Splenda, SweetnLow or Honey as a substitute for sugar?

I'm not a big fan of some of the artificial sweeteners. However, I have used honey in place of sugar in various baked goods. I tried the Splenda in pumpkin pie and my kids noticed that I had made the substituion and didn't care for it very much. They wanted me to make the pies with sugar.

  • Nope. I bake/cook with sugar. Honey has it's place but I can't eat it so I don't use it - kids & DH like it on toast & in tea.

  • I've heard of people using Splenda to replace Sugar when it comes to baking. Some have turned OK and others have turned into disasters!

I myself have never substituted and probably wouldn't. If I'm going to go through the trouble to make a cake, cookies, pie, pastries etc for myself and my family I will use regular sugar. It's worth the calories for me and I want it to taste good ;-)

  • I use Splenda in my tea all the time. I've made cookies with it and my family didn't even notice. If you don't tell them, they probably won't know. I don't like SweetnLow because it has a bit of an aftertaste and so does Equal, although I use that if I don't have any Splenda.
