Have you ever seen a gay teacher?

I was wondering if your child ever had a gay teacher or seen on in there school.
My DD just started 4th grade and her teacher is gay.I am find with it.My DD thinks he is funny bc of the way he talks and acts in class.Beside that she says he talks real fast.I have never seens a gay teacher before but I am happy my daughter has himm and this way she learns how everybody is different and how it is okay to be different.
Would you be okay with your child having a gay teacher?

  • I don't care about my child's teachers sexual orientation, so long as the teacher isn't getting involved w/ students. (Although, regardless of orientation, I would hope they'd avoid heavy PDAs in front of their students at school functions.)

I'm more concerned that their teachers are competent, organized, engaging, knowledgable, etc.

  • Gem, what does sexual orientation have to do with a teacher becoming involved w/ a student?

Nope, not an issue at all. I have a friend who teaches 7th grade math and is as gay as they come, he's only ever had one issue w/ a student's parent- that was after they saw him in public @ the grocery w/ his partner and they DEMANDED their child be removed from his roster... sad. They were fundies.

  • I've honestly never asked a teacher who they were sleeping with. I had quite a few lesbian teachers and even a principal when I was in school... It never affected the way they taught and that's all that matters! If a teacher is a good teacher it doesn't matter who they are attracted to.

  • You make it seem like a pet ferret or something.

A teacher is a teacher and as long as they are qualified and doing a good job with my kid, s/he could have a blue tongue and green hair for all the difference it would make. Gay/Lesbian people should be treated and respected because they really are no different from anyone else. All anyone really needs in the world is love and respect.

  • Sorry, I should have been more clear. What I meant was: I don't care ANYTHING about my child's teachers' sexuality unless and until it involves a sexual relationship with his/her students. Once the teacher crosses that boundary, THEN it becomes my business.

On a re-read, I realized how my answer could have implied that I equated homosexuality with pedophilia, which was not my intention whatsoever and I apologize if anyone was offended by my mis-wording.

  • How would I know if I've ever seen one since they really don't look any different than "non-gay" teachers? I couldn't care less whether the teacher is gay or not, as long as he's good at his job.

  • I have never asked a teacher their sexual orientation? Why wouldn't you be okay with it?

  • I wouldn't know. I've never gone around asking the teachers if they were gay or not. I don't care either way. It's their life they can live it how they like.

  • There was this fabulous 1st grade teacher (next door to dd's immersion class). I would never have known from his abilities his sexual orientation - and its not important. We wound up classmates in grad school :)
