When do MOST children start on baby food?

I am having an argument with my mom about when to start my 4 mo. old on baby food. I told her I want to check with the pediatrician first but she tells me I don't have to. I feel safer checking with the pediatrician first but I am catching a lot of flak on it.

  • I believe current recommendations are once they are at least 6 months.

  • We started our daughter on rice cereal right around 4 months, not much at all, just a little bit in the middle of the day. We didn't start giving her actual food until about 7 months...

  • my pedi told me to start now with my 4 month old. But only one jar a day for the first month, then 2 jars a day at 5 months old and 3 jars at 6+ months. And veggies only untill 9 months old.

  • I think most kids start around 6 months, our peds told us definitely not before then. But we never started them that early... If it would make you feel better, I would talk to the doctor. Either way, 4months is to early!

  • I started mine at different times, when I felt that they were ready. So it was between 4 and 8 months depending on the little one.
