Recipe calls for lard..can you buy just lard? What section of the store?

  • Yes, and I've only seen it refrigerated, in the meat section (in the store I used to work in, it was by the cheese/lunchmeat/refrig. pickles).

  • I pretty sure you can use vegetable shortening...whats the recipe for that makes a difference.

  • Yes you can, usually in the meat department or near the shortening. You can replace it with butter or shortening, and sometimes oil.

  • Yes you can buy lard. In Calif. the brand is Manteca. You can either find this by the shortening or in the Mexican food section.
