1 Bump

2 1/2 year old with a fever

My daughter has had this fever for a good 2 days now. its been pretty constant between 100 and 103....medicine bringing it down for a while. I can tell she dosent feel well, shes not really eating much( I know can be expected with a fever) drinking a little less but shell still drink, she has pretty much confined herself to the couch for the better part of the day just laying and watching tv. there arent really any other considerable symptoms other than she says her mouth hurts...its hard to tell if she has teeth comming in...the only ones shes missing are her 4 back molars....but i have noticed when she drinks anything she coughs and starts to do this gag like thing like its hurting her...not sure if shes trying to get attention or what it would mean if she wasnt....any advice on what to do for her??

  • It could be strep throat. I'd take her to the doctor tomorrow. Strep requires antibiotics to clear up. In general anytime a fever lasts this long it's a good idea to see a doctor just in case it's bacterial and not viral (ie needs medication to clear up, not just rest and fluids).

  • that sounds like a serious sore throat. dont mess with a fever without goign to doctor after a day or so if it doesnt come down. lay her in a lukewarm tub of half filled with water to bring fever down. spray her throat with chloraseptic numbing antiseptic throat spray for children over the counter. giver her some childrens tylenol or acetaminophen OR childrens MOTRIN which works better, since she is over two. i am a nurses daughter. keep up with the motrin every 4 hrs or so, to break this fever. USE pedialyte to keep her from becoming dehydrated if she cant eat or drink!!! tastes odd liek soda but has electrolytes in it liek gatorade for kids. also start giving her vitamins for her age group and continue that thru her childhood---BESt thing i have ever done and i tke vitamins too

  • Since she's had a fever for a couple days and has a definite behavior change, you should call your ped. Your ped will likely want to see her to check her ears and throat for infection. It may turn out to be nothing, but is better to be safe.

  • i would do onions in her socks to bring down the fever...but the gag m/b a reflex thing cause she is in pain..sound like a throat infection..look at her throat to make sure no white spots an see how red it is..read dark red may mean strep
