If the Bible is used to back homosexuality dislike...how about these?

DEUTERONOMY 22:13-21
If it is discovered that a bride is not a virgin, the Bible demands that she be executed by stoning immediately.
DEUTERONOMY 22:22
If a married person has sex with someone else's husband or wife, the Bible commands that both adulterers be stoned to death.
MARK 10:1-12
Divorce is strictly forbidden in both Testaments, as is remarriage of anyone who has been divorced.
LEVITICUS 18:19
The Bible forbids a married couple from having sexual intercourse during a woman's period. If they disobey, both shall be executed.
MARK 12:18-27
If a man dies childless, his widow is ordered by biblical law to have intercourse with each of his brothers in turn until she bears her deceased husband a male heir.
DEUTERONOMY 25:11-12
If a man gets into a fight with another man and his wife seeks to rescue her husband by grabbing the enemy's genitals, her hand shall be cut off and no pity shall be shown her.

  • Makes no sense, does it? I don't get it either. Most of the time when non-Christians mention the things you did, we get told "that's from the OLD Testament, we don't use that anymore". But the New Testament doesn't mention homosexuality at all, so now what? Actually, neither does the Old Testament, not in its original shape anyway...

  • All I can say is regardless of what the ACTUAL scriptures say - be they "for" or "against" something if someone WANTS them to mean something besides what they do, they will find a way to back their beliefs... The bible does not talk about homosexuality or condemn it. But as with many other "common beliefs" such as Hell which are not actually mentioned, people see what they want and will find a translation or obscure historical reference which will support their belief. That's simply how it works.

  • Shall we make laws to stone these types of people to death? The bible says this should be the punishment...it is just as detestable as being gay, apparantly. Would you fight for these laws to be made? WHy or why not? Do you find premarital sex to be something disgusting or not what you want your kids exposed too?
What about people who have been married before and remarry? Do you allow your kids to see this?
Will you teach your DD not to have sex while having her period, or that she will have to have sex with her BIL's until she bears a child?

  • actually some jewish people (especially rabis) still obey the law about not having sex with your wife while she has her period.  depending on how strict they are, sometimes they cannot even touch her until she has been made clean again and goes through a special ceremony after her period is done.

  • Here is one of the actual bible verses:
2:22 If a man be found lying with a woman married to an husband, then they shall both of them die, both the man that lay with the woman, and the woman: so shalt thou put away evil from Israel.

  • The old law has changed. God changed that law when he robed himself in flesh and died for us. i'll get back to you on the NT ones, after i go read them myself.

  • Matt 5: 32But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery

in other words, if your spouse cheats on you, it's ok to divorce. he repeats himself in Matt 19:9 And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery

so to get down to it, the guiltless party can get remarried, the guilty cannot.

as for Mark 12, they were telling Jesus the law of moses, and asking who would be her husband in heaven. as i've said, the old law has changed.

i've said it before: The LAW can change but GOD never changes.

I know that this one is definitely wrong. Actually what it says is that some people asked Jesus a question and Jesus told them that they err because they do not know or understand the scriptures.

  • let me clarify. it doesn't say it's required to divorce. If the guilty party is truly sorry and repents, to not only God but her husband, and she's forgiven and seriously never wants to do it again, they can stay together.
