Why do we laugh at other peoples mishaps?

Why do we laugh when someone falls? Why do we laugh when they spill coffee or a bird poops on them? Why do we?

  • Well I do laugh at mishaps. I guess its funny to me. But I always make sure everyone involved is ok before I let out a chuckle.

  • I think, deep down, there exists a part of people who take pleasure in other people's misfortune, or to see people "brought down a peg". It's ugly and most people will deny it exists, but if that's true, then why has America's Funniest Videos, YouTube, FailBlog, etc. become and stayed so popular?

  • Because we're glad it didn't happen to us.
WHen on televison, I can laugh (sometimes say "outch!") WHen it happens infront of you I'm with reigndrops. Check if the person is allright.
I allso like the videos of kids falling asleep on the toilet or dinnertable, dipping into the mashed potatoes with their forehead. lol As long as the potatoes aren't hot anymore. The one's with animals are funny, too.

  • They allways say " children and drunk people don't lie" so I guess, it is in our nature. Becasue my dd can laugh A LOT seeing somebody having a crash with a sleigh or falling of a trampolin. And it doesn't sound fake, she's really amused then. (Or maybe she's just mean?)

  • I don't believe your daughter has a mean bone in her body!!! Besides, I think she takes after her mom! Which would make her very special!! I don't know why I laugh so hard when I see someone fall. I guess because it happens so suddenly and its unexpecited, especially some times the way they land. I remember falling down a flight of stairs with a glass in my hand. I had black and blue bruses but I never spilled a drop! Just call me graceful!!! LOL
