  • I read all the HP books before my kids did, and my oldest read all seven. I read them first not only to vet them, but so I could discuss them if they had questions. We've seen the movies and the kids loved them. For us, it's not only entertaining, but it makes a good jumping off point to discuss issues like ethnic cleansing, racism, class warfare, slavery, honor, justice, and bravery.
