trying to learn photography on my own. any suggestions

  • Look at many books on photography and by photographers. Go to arts shows where photography is featured. Find subject matter that gives you great pleasure and see what you can do with that.

  • check out www.nyip.com, it's the new york institute of photography. it's an at home 3 year course, it's $1000, you make monthly payments. they teach you everything: the basics, the art, the technique, and the business. i took the class and i loved it. you only need a regular camera to take the class, no expensive equipment.

  • There are a TON of photography groups here on CM to help you. Research online and in books at UR local bookstore. You can join forums (some are free, some aren't) for some great ideas, suggestions and learning the basics. You can even google UR area to see if there are any local photography groups (sometimes on Meetup.com) to help you connect with others that are learning. :) HTH!
