  • Just go to Lowe's and look in the Pest Control area. Its made by Bayer (don't remember the name) and is in a spray bottle you attach to your hose and you spray the lawn. It does work.

  • The first thing is she needs to make sure there is no standing water. If she has low spots in her yard she needs to have them filled in. (Fill dirt is, if you will excuse me for saying so, dirt cheap.) If she has a kiddie pool, it needs to be covered...no exposed standing water anywhere. Make sure the gutters are clear. If the water can't be removed, it needs to be treated with BTI. (found in products like mosquito dunks or quick kill pellets)

Mosquitos nest in shaded, protected areas. Remove low lying vegetation, make sure shrubs are trimmed so there is adequate airflow under them, and keep the grass trimmed.

Install bug lights around all doors and windows. Mosquitos aren't attracted to all light, just light at certain frequencies. Bug lights, yellow LED's and sodium lamps don't attract them. Use these lights on porches, in the entryway, and close to windows.

  • The problem with commercial pesticides is that they leave a residue that can be dangerous to children and animals, and they kill loads of beneficial critters as well, and they rarely kill the larvae, so your sister will be in the same situation in a couple of weeks. The best way to get rid of mosquitos is to create an envrionment they do not want to nest in.

  • twinsplus2more and Jenny-talia have some great advice.

I do know that in the morning and towards the evenings is when they are more of a problem. Wear long shelves and pants with you are outside.
