  • It's hard. You can try your best to match the color to your skin in the store but the lighting can be difficult. If you buy your make up from a department store like Macy's or somewhere they have make up artists there who will match it for you.

  • You have cool undertones if: Your skin is: pink, rosy, beige, or brown.
And your eyes are: blue, gray, or black-brown.If you have cool undertones, then you should choose your eye shadow, blush, and lip colors from the cool color family. The cool color family is your pinks and roses and also includes fuchsias, violets, lavenders, grapes, cherries and wines. Pinks and roses are good for cool to neutral skin tones
warm undertones if: Your skin is: golden or olive. And your eyes are: green or brown. If you have warm undertones, then you should choose your colors from the warm color family. Beiges and browns are considered warm colors and includes: browns, bronzes, golds, mochas, taupes and spices. Beiges and browns are good for warm to neutral skin tones.

  • You have neutral undertones if you have a balance between warm and cool undertones. Most women have neutral undertones. If you have neutral undertones, then you should choose your eye shadow, blush, and lip colors from one of the neutral color families. Mauves and berries are considered neutral. Mauves and berries also include: mauves, berries, plums, burgundies, lilacs, and cranberries. Mauves and berries are good for cool to neutral skin tones but leans more toward neutral.Corals and reds are also considered neutral. Corals and reds include: peaches, corals, oranges, brownish reds, tawnies, apricots, and all shades of red except for the bluish reds, which are considered cool. Corals and reds are good for neutral to warm skin tones but leans more toward the neutral.

  • well you try to match it the best you can since its your first time. if you think its too dark, you can buy another bottle thats a bit lighter and mix them two on your hand and then apply. if you buy too light...you can buy a slight darker one and mix those two together and apply. the next time you need to buy it, you will know the right shade then.

if one bottle is expensive, i buy the other bottle (light or dark) from a cheap store like dollar store.

  • Aw, iNk-FrEak, you didn't mention hazel eyes. :(

kandykane1, I'd recommend going to a makeup artist in the mall (if you have a Bare Escentuals in a local mall, I'd highly recommend going there) and starting small. Don't go all out with the makeup, start with just a couple things and go from there. It's too easy to get overwhelmed.

  • i would recommend that you go into a department store and have a "makeover" - they will match your foundation perfectly with your skin color - yes, they are a bit more expensive than your drug store brands - but well worth it - i wait for the Este Lauder freebies and then go in and they match my foundation to my face and give me the latest type of foundation - it lasts well over a year - and i get all kinds of goodies in the free baggie - plus a nice little bag!!! if you decide to do it on your own, try to match the foundation nearest to the color of your face as you can - you don't want to see any "line" of separation from where you put your foundation on to where you stopped it....

  • Best thing to do is go to a make up consultant, they will tell you everything you need to know about make up, what colors suit your skin tone best, eye color... what hides bad features and enhances good features, etc.
