any cold medicines safe while breastfeeding?

  • I wouldn't risk it, I know they can dry up your milk.

  • sudafed. Rumored to dry up milk, but I think it depends on how often your are breastfeeding for it to really take effect.

  • You can also ask your local pharmacist (walgreens, walmart, cvs, etc) if any particular medicine is safe. I believe I also took Tylenol cold medicine too.

  • If it is for sinus stuff, use a net pot. Drug free and it works.

  • There are no cold meds that are contraindicated. It is an old wives tale that they dry up your milk. Even if they did decrease your supply all you would need to do is nurse more. Since you aren't feeling well you should be laying around nursing more anyway. Here is the link to the AAP policy statement that lists the few drugs you can't take. You can call La Leche League about specific drugs.
