How many hours of sleep do your children get on school nights?

I read that a child between ages 5-8 should get 10 hours of sleep. Are your children getting enough hours of sleep. My daughter only gets 9 hours of rest so we are working on making bed time 30 minutes earlier.

  • My daughter goes to bed at 8:45 and has to be up by 5:45 AM. The bus arrives at 6:20 and school starts at 7:30. I feel so bad that she has to wake up so early but the school is a bit far. I work full time and my husband away (military). We usually dont get home until 6:00, eat around 6:30, do homework and do family activities 7:00-8:00. Then bath time at 8:00 (after getting three children baths separately and washing hair, and getting on pajamas, I get done around 8:30.) Then we pick out clothes, shoes, pack backpacks and are in bed by 8:45 PM. I just dont know how to squeeze in an extra 30 minutes of rest just yet.

  • Sleep is also dependant on the child. My 4 year old goes to bed 8pm and wakes at 7.30 for pre-k.

  • My 7-year-old (1st grade) goes to bed at 8 p.m. on school nights--but she gets to read for 1/2 hour and I think it's usually closer to 9 p.m. when she actually falls asleep. She's up for school at 7 a.m., so 10 hours. Any less than that and I can really tell she's lacking sleep.
