My one-year-old son is so stuborn, he refuses to eat off a spoon (or fork) if we offer it - and he hasn't quite mastered feeding himself, yet. He's gone without meals because of his refusal to be fed.
I've tried letting him "practice" with his own utensil, while I sneak a few bites in his mouth, but that's not even working now.
Will he just be eating hotdogs, mac & cheese, and other finger foods for a while?
[Yes, I do know the right way to slice a hotdog; lengthwise first.]

I think it's ok to let a 1 year old use their hands a little while they are learning to use the spoon and fork, they will get it soon enough, no point in making him not eat a meal just because he hasn't gotten used to the utensils yet.
