How can I get my 11 month old to hold his own bottle? He gets really frustrated if I just sit it down for him to pick up. He only like it when I hold it for him.

  • Let him get frustrated. He will learn.

  • So hold it for him and hold him. Or give him a sippy to drink from. He is old enough to have sippy only and no bottle at this point. And what baby doesn't want mom to hold them while they drink from a bottle?

  • At 11 months old he should start using a sippy cup. Maybe if you gave him his formula in a sippy it would break they cycle of mommy holds me when I drink.

  • If you opt to bottle feed it's recommended to make the experience as much like breastfeeding as possible. Holding the baby while the baby takes the bottle is important. Besides the closeness it helps baby eye development. It is good to switch sides holding the baby as you would breastfeeding so the baby's eyes can focus on your face from both directions. The time you take to hold your baby and bottle feed is important. Your baby has only a short time of bottle feeding left.

  • I have tried that numerous times, but he just screams and cries. He wont hold a sippy cup either. Sad huh? I have even held his hands on the bottle for every feeding for a a couple weeks and he still wont hold it. I don't mind feeding him, but I feel like he should be doing it by himself by now. Do you think it is a bad thing?

  • It isn't a bad thing. Just hold him and feed him.
