Different mashed potatoes.

I'm cooking chicken and mashed potatoes but real one, not from the box. I will like something different to put on the potatoes, not cheese or sour cream. My sister told me she one made something out of garlic and some kind of herb. Any clue what was that?

  • There's a few combinations you can use. Also consider using some chicken stock/broth in the potatoes themselves to give them more flavor. Some flavors that go together:
garlic, oregano, basil, onion (any combination of 2-4 of those, or pre-mixed Italian seasoning)
    bacon & cheddar
garlic, cayenne, black pepper (or just get some pre-mixed cajun season mix)
chili powder, cumin, coriander, thyme, garlic (mexican season/ taco season)
onion, parsley, oregano, lemon zest (greek flavor - if you're using real onion instead of onion powder or flakes, sweat it in olive oil)

  • Okay, I like pureed Parsnip or cauliflower in my mashed potatoes with along with butter salt and pepper. It gives it a different but not weird flavor and adds the bonus of an extra veggie. Parsnip gives it a slightly sweet flavor and the cauliflower gives it kind of a more savory/buttery flavor. I will steam either one and mash it in with the potatoes. It really is good, I swear! lol

  • Garlic and parsley would be good. Or garlic parsley and a little thyme.

  • I always do some roasted garlic mashed in. You can also add a bit of bacon crumbles to it, some chives or some parsley. I want to do some with parmesan added into it.
